- 01Book Sonamarg pony rides at the entry gate, not mid-trail — rates double past the first bend once you're a captive customer.
- 02Shikara rides on Dal Lake are priced per hour but everyone negotiates — a 1-hour sunset ride shouldn't cost much more than a 45-minute one booked mid-day. Ask upfront.
- 03Gulmarg's Gondola Phase 2 (to Apharwat Peak) sells out by 10am in ski season — buy tickets online the day before if your hotel offers it, or arrive by 7:30am.
- 04Houseboat owners on Dal Lake often subcontract meals to a shore kitchen — if home-cooked Wazwan matters to you, ask specifically whether the boat has its own cook before booking.

No permit is needed for Indian nationals visiting Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg. Foreign nationals should carry a passport at all times.

Most tourist-grade houseboats on Dal and Nagin Lake have attached bathrooms, heating, and genuinely comfortable beds — they're not roughing it. We only work with boats we've personally vetted.
December–February for snow in Gulmarg; April–May for the Tulip Garden and Mughal Gardens in full bloom. You generally can't get both in a single trip.
